Five Things Friday

Today I am joining in with the lovely Amy for Five on Friday.

Here are five things that made my week:

1. Getting the Slow Cooker Back in Action

As the nights have started to get chilly, I have been craving warming casseroles and stews. On Monday, I popped a couple of free range chicken breasts in the slow cooker with some balsamic vinegar, garlic, onion, chilli flakes and stock. By the time we got home it was all soft and tender. I used forks to 'pull' it as you would with pork, and added chick peas and peppers. It was delicious with a sweet potato and some kale. We had enough for lunch the next day too, so it was economical as well.

2. Misty Mornings

Walking the dog in the morning is not my favourite thing - I am not a morning person. But this morning, the landscape was transformed by moody autumn mist - beautiful. With the fog came a jewelling on the leaves of the plants and cobwebs were transformed into strings of minute beads. Lovely!

3. Candles

The nights draw in and the candles come out in our house. I am never without candles in autumn/winter. Flame is such a human pleasure.

4. My Quilt

It is all wonky and full of mistakes, but I love this quilt that I made over several years using leftover scraps from work shirts, nighties and curtains. I reserve it for my favourite visitors, and I enjoyed using it to make my spare bed cosy for a good friend staying this weekend.

5. Sunsets

This beautiful sunset from my run earlier this week blew me away.

Very much an ordinary week of living and working, but wonderful in its own way.

  1. Your quilt looks lovely. I'm trying to join two together at the moment with a layer of wadding in between. What a palaver! Have a good weekend. :-)

    1. Oh no, that is definitely the worst bit! One day I will invest in a sewing machine with a wandering foot, but until then I have to make do and swear a lot. Good luck!

  2. Lovely autumn moments! I sit surrounded by candles and will later go to snuggle under a quilt so I totally understand why you love these things so much. It was our first foggy morning today and it was good to see how everything looked, a real change in seasons! Thank you for joining Five On Friday. I hope that you have a great weekend! xx

    1. Thanks, it is a pigs ear of a quilt but as you say, that only goes to prove the blood sweat and tears that went into it! Would be interested to hear how to make candles. Thanks for dropping by.

    1. Thanks Pom Pom! Prising myself out of bed is never much fun but it is worth it when you get out before the world wakes up.

  7. I have found lots of great food using my slow cooker. Even if it's just for the two of us.

    1. Definitely! Especially when you can stretch a big pot to make four meals - saves cooking. We sometimes do porridge in it so that breakfast is ready in the morning when we wake up - mmmm.

  8. I love your misty tree shot! Autumn is such a wonderful time...and I love cooking with my crockpot. I love anything easy, that cooks in bulk and can be eaten over four days, and keeps me from cooking and doing dishes! :-)

  9. Hi - Love your misty tree photo. I am obsessed with taking misty photos but as yet I have not taken one that I think is fantastic. Candles are lovely this time of the year. Your chicken dish looks yummy. Joan at www.aviewtothefells.com
