Is My Allotment Cost Effective?

Super Cheap Super Amazing Day Out

Today I had a great day out on my college field trip to the RHS Wisley garden in Surrey. The weather was shite, but I still had a great time indulging my horticultural urges.

The first thing my group did was head straight to the coffee shop. My muffins and home made coffee were a distant memory at this point (it was an early start and a long drive!). But a friend who wasn't able to come, and who asked me to take some photos for her, gave me a £5 voucher to use in the café, so I had a coffee and huge slice of cake.

Ask, and the universe delivers!

After some more mooching and a tour of the orchards, the heavens opened, and all thoughts of a picnic outside went down the drain with the deluge. We all piled into the nearest café...this time an organic sausage restaurant. This was difficult - I could have spent £4.50 on a hot dog so as not to offend anyone by eating my own food and I came close.

I figured that there are always going to be times like this, when spending money is an easy way to avoid an awkward situation. But if I did that, I would be putting off reaching my goal to basically fit other people's expectations. On the other hand, the owner of the café needs to make a living and isn't providing, cleaning and heating an indoor picnic site. So I compromised. I bought a black coffee for £2.35, declared to the group that I had already made my lunch and brazenly ate it at the table. Nobody looked, commented or threw me out and it was perfectly fine.

I stayed away from the bookshop and plant centre (SO much temptation - why do it to myself?) and the whole day out cost me a grand total of  £2.35 (which came out of my spending money budget).

Thus proving to myself that I do not need to spend lots of money to have a great time.
